Have you ever looked at a painting or drawing and wondered how it was created? Have you ever wished you could capture the beauty of a landscape, the expression of a loved one, or simply an idea floating in your imagination? Art isn’t a mysterious gift reserved for a select few; it’s a language we can all learn to speak. This course, “Fundamentals of Art, is specifically designed to be your friendly and accessible guide on this journey of visual discovery. It’s the perfect starting point for families looking for an enriching activity, for homeschooling parents who want to integrate art education in a solid and fun way, and for any beginner, ages 10 and up, who wants to get started with a clear foundation and without feeling intimidated.

Our philosophy moves away from the pressure to achieve the “perfect result” and immerses itself in the joy of the process. We believe that a spontaneous doodle has just as much educational value as a finished drawing, because every line represents a decision, a discovery. Here you won’t find incomprehensible academic jargon, but rather clear explanations and practical examples that demystify the secrets artists have used for centuries. We envision a virtual (or physical) space where trial and error isn’t just allowed—it’s celebrated! A relaxed environment where the question “What if I try this?” is the true driving force behind learning.

What will we explore in this creative adventure through the Fundamentals of Art?
The journey begins with the most essential and powerful element: the line. You’ll learn how a simple stroke can go from being static to coming to life, expressing movement, texture, and emotion. From there, we’ll take a fundamental step: we’ll discover that everything around us can be broken down into basic geometric shapes. An apple is a circle, a book is a rectangle, a house is a combination of prisms. This key insight will allow you to draw any object with confidence, building it step by step on a solid foundation.

Next, we’ll bring those drawings to life with light and shadow (value). This is the art of turning a circle into a three-dimensional sphere, of giving a face volume and realism. You’ll learn to observe how light shapes the world and to replicate that effect with your pencil, creating contrasts and subtleties that add depth. And speaking of depth, we’ll master the illusion of space on a flat page using basic perspective. We’ll teach you simple techniques to make roads, rooms, or landscapes appear to recede toward the horizon, adding a new dimension to your compositions.

The world is color, and we will conquer it. You’ll go beyond the primary colors in your palette to become a modern alchemist. You’ll learn to mix colors with confidence, understanding how they interact (what happens if I combine this blue with this yellow?) and, most importantly, how to use them to communicate. You’ll discover that a warm palette can convey joy or warmth, while a cool one can evoke melancholy or peace, allowing you to paint not only what you see, but also what you feel.

Finally, we’ll bring all these elements together under the umbrella of composition. How can we arrange various objects in a scene to make it harmonious and appealing? We’ll apply intuitive design principles to create visually balanced works that guide the viewer’s eye and tell a cohesive story.

The only requirements are a desire to experiment, a pencil, and paper to learn how to master the fundamentals of art. And for younger participants (ages 10 and up), we strongly encourage them to be accompanied by an adult. This isn’t just about supervision—it’s an opportunity to double the fun and learning. Imagine sharing that “Eureka!” moment when you achieve your first perfect shading, or laughing together at an unexpected result that turns into a brilliant abstract work of art. It’s an experience of connection and memory-making that’s just as valuable as the technical skills you’ll acquire.

Join us and unleash the artist that has always lived within you. The visual adventure begins with a single stroke.

Course Content

Module 1: The World of Lines and Shapes (2D)
Module Overview: Welcome to the alphabet of art. Just as letters form words, lines and shapes are the building blocks of everything we see and create. In this module, we’ll lose our fear of drawing, explore the personality of lines, and discover how any object—no matter how complex—can be broken down into simple shapes. Get ready to doodle with purpose!

  • Lesson 1.2: 2D Shapes – The Building Blocks
  • Lesson 1.3: Gestural Drawing – Flow Without Fear
  • Lesson 1.4: 3D Shapes – Volume and Depth
  • Final Project – Module 1: My Three-Dimensional Creature

Module 2: Exploring Space – Perspective and Depth
Welcome to the next level of our visual journey. If in Module 1 you learned the alphabet of art (line and shape), in this module you’ll learn to write your first spatial sentences. Just as words need order and a place on the page, your drawings need a space to live, breathe, and tell stories. In this module, we’ll discover how to create the illusion of depth on a completely flat sheet of paper, master the art of seeing “empty space” as an active form, and learn to place characters and objects in believable settings. Get ready for your drawings to no longer be flat—they’ll have a whole world inside them!

Module 3: Space and Our Place in It
Welcome to the world of color. If in the previous modules you learned how to draw lines, shapes, and spaces, now it’s time to fill them with life, emotion, and meaning. Color isn’t just decoration; it’s a powerful language that can completely transform the feel of an image. In this module, you’ll become a palette alchemist: you’ll learn to mix colors, understand their relationships and secrets, and use them to convey joy, melancholy, calm, or energy. You don’t need expensive paints; with the basic colors (red, blue, yellow, white, and black), you can create an infinite chromatic universe. Get ready to bring color to your world!

Module 4: The Power of Color
Welcome to the art of composition. You already know how to draw lines, shapes, add volume, create depth, and use color. Now you’ll learn how to bring it ALL together in a harmonious, interesting, and effective way. The principles of design are the rules (which you can later break creatively) that great artists use to compose their works. Where do I place the focal point? How do I give my drawing rhythm? What happens if everything is the same size? In this module, you’ll discover that composition isn’t random—it’s a powerful tool for telling visual stories. Get ready to organize your creative chaos!

Module 5: We Compose Our Masterpiece
Welcome to the grand finale. You’ve come a long way: from the simplest line to the most complex composition. You have all the tools you need. Now it’s time to use them TOGETHER to create a work that’s entirely your own. This module doesn’t introduce any new concepts; it’s a guided creative workshop where you’ll apply everything you’ve learned: expressive lines, three-dimensional shapes, spaces with perspective, colors that evoke emotion, and design principles. The only limit is your imagination. Get ready to create your masterpiece!
